From a young age, I learned that spaces weren’t always made for us—but that didn’t mean we didn’t belong. My grandmother, who marched with Dr. King, made it her mission to integrate spaces that lacked melanin, and she passed that same fire down to me. I was often one of the only Black kids in the room—usually the smartest, always the most aware—and let me tell you, that crown is heavy.
But I believe that our gifts—wisdom, mentorship, or financial resources—are meant to be shared. Personal growth isn’t just about self-improvement; it’s about collective elevation. If we want to create real change, we must be willing to have the hard conversations, to challenge what we’ve been taught, and to get comfortable being uncomfortable—because the law of reciprocity don’t miss!
I am living proof. I’ve been blessed, mentored, and poured into by those who came before me, and now I’m paying it forward.
